I love GAC. I’ve never belonged to a gym before. When I moved here a few years ago, I needed something more than just walking for exercise. I walked into GAC and discovered a friendly hometown atmosphere. The staff is courteous and professional. The facility is clean and the variety of machines has improved my stamina and my strength. I could not do much of anything when I started, but now I amaze myself! I love being able to go there anytime of day or in any kind of weather. Exercising is a great way to get away, unwind or meet some familiar friendly faces. GAC has become a part of my life; the day does not seem complete if I haven’t had my workout. I am over sixty years old. I’ve been a member of the gym for five years. I work out at the gym at least four days a week for an hour each time. The facility is always clean and odor free. The owners and trainers are very friendly and helpful. I like the fact that I can come any day at any time. The equipment is always in good working order and I feel very comfortable while I’m at the gym.
Since I started coming to the gym I’ve lost over forty pounds, and my blood pressure and cholesterol are way down. I have met some very nice people and made good friends at the gym.
I’ve visited other facilities an for my money nothing compares. I will continue to be a member as long as possible.

Every year I see my doctors at Gardner Family Practice. It was always the same, blood pressure 115/58, fasting blood sugar was 80. Then I went in and my doctor said my blood pressure was 140/70 and my fasting blood sugar was 106. I blew a gasket. After completing the 5 stages of grief, I finally came to acceptance. In everything I had done before; structure, the right tools and perseverance were key to success. I didn’t need motivation. I was 62 and I believed that inactivity which leads to loss of muscle mass is the primary reason old people grow frail and lose their sense of balance.
So in March of 2010, I joined GAC and 18 months later I have lost 35 pounds and 10″ off my waistline. My favorite workout is the Assisted Chin/Pull up machine. I started on the last rung (the greatest amount of weight assistance.) Today I am on the next to the first rung (the lowest amount of weight assistance). In a month or two I will be flying solo on this machine. I achieved solo on dips a couple of months ago. So this is one way I measured progress over these last 18 months.
The other way I measured progress was the level of intensity on the elliptical routines. I started out at level 5 and worked my way up to level 10 for 40 minutes on every workout the elliptical offers (with the exception of the manual workout – that is next). This took only about 3 months. So now my focus is increasing speed distance.
These successes come slowly over time but they did come. I am a healthier and every activity I participate in outside the gym is a snap because of the effort and sweat I left in the gym. Thank you GAC.Bill Lucas
I joined GAC a few years ago. I was looking for something better than what I was getting out of my previous gym in town. I had always thought I was in pretty good shape and enjoyed working out with my husband a couple of days a week in the gym. One day I decided to change things up and join the boot camp that had been advertised. I was a little skeptical and wasn’t sure if it was going to be right for me, but now I can say that it has totally changed my life!
I’m not only in the best shape of my life at 40 years old but I have a whole new family! I never thought that I would be that person that loved to work out and couldn’t wait to get to the gym everyday but no I am, not only for the intense, satisfying, and sometimes insane workouts but for the people that belong to this gym. We all support each other and all are working towards the same goal, healthy lifestyles.
The boot camp has become a way of life for me. I can’t say enough about Curt Vignery the trainer. He truly cares about each and every person in his class and wants to see each of us succeed. I look around and see all these men and women that he has changed forever and how passionate he is about what he does and how passionate he has made us. The amount of time he invests in us is amazing.
My husband and I are local business owners and we know every customer that walks in the door is important and needs to be treated that way. Connie has that same philosophy. She is always friendly, supportive, and interested in the progress of others. Gardner Athletic Club is my second home and I encourage others to change their lives too. GET OFF THE COUCH AND JOIN THE GYM!

I joined GAC about two months after Connie and Sue opened their doors. My weight was completely out of control. I soon met Curt Vignery. One look at Curt and it is obvious he knows what he is doing. I started working with Curt and I received immediate results. I also underwent gastric bypass surgery. After surgery the weight really came off. Working with Curt really game me the needed direction.
My doctor was very impressed with my results. He knew I wouldn’t have gotten those kind of results without a really good workout plan.
This is where Curt gets all the credit. Working out under Curt’s supervision made all the difference in the world. I actually enjoyed our sessions. At that point the hardest part of my workouts was getting through the doors. Curt and I really clicked, I consider him the best trainer I could have ever found. I also consider him a very good friend.
When Curt and Nena started the Boot Camp Classes I promptly signed up. My biceps are now better than when I played Football, Wrestled and served in the Army during and after High School at GEHS.
I just can’t say enough about what Curt has done for me. I have lost nearly 200 lbs. I owe him more than I can ever describe in words.
Connie and Sue do a terrific job of keeping the club clean and maintaining the workout equipment. They always are ready to do whatever is necessary in order to make your workout experience first rate. My monthly dues are probably the best money I have ever spent. If anyone was to ask me to recommend GAC, I will always reply with a definite yes. As I stated earlier the hardest part of working out is getting though the doors. Thanks to Curt, Nena, Connie and Sue for all they have done for me.Brent Lawrence
